 Authority , Accountability & Responsibility of Management Authority :  Authority means legal or delegated power or right to a person. When manager is given powers to perform his managerial roles ,by the higher executive ,board or the owner , its is said he has authority to act, sign etc.  Safety Officer has authority to design or sign safety work permit or to sign a purchase order of a safety equipment.   Span of Management – The span of management refers to no of subordinates a manager or a supervisor can supervise effectively because of his limitations of time, capacity , ability , nature of work , pressure of work.  The span of control shows the number of subordinates reporting to a manager. This concept is also known as management ratio.For example, a 1:10 ratio shows that ten employees report to one manager.  No single individual can effectively supervise unlimited number of subordinates. Management Principles  Henry Fayol's 14 Management Principles -  1) Division of Work - Work of every person should be limited to a single leading function to do more and better work with the same effort. 2) Authority and Responsibility - Authority gives the management the right to give orders to the subordinates. Responsibility arises when authority is given. Advance Diploma In Industrial Safety (ADIS)    Hello all ,  I am a EHS student. Completed Advance Diploma In  Industrial Safety from MSBTE. Currently working in different domain. Though working in different domain I am very much enthusiastic ,keen and avid student of EHS. Always interested to observe and keep my self awake when I visit any shop floor or any working environment. I am Fortunate to visit  shop floors often times for my current job profile. Even if I am working in different domain the Safety student in me always awake.  Reason behind starting this blog is avid interest in EHS concepts ,practices , principles and importance of the profession. As part of my current job profile I do visit various companies from small scale to MNCs  in many cities or Industrial development corporations.  Where I intentionally  interact with various professionals from Production , Maintenance , EHS/Safety, Contractors to discuss their EHS practices and understand  their EHS culture ,challenges
